In 1974, the Law on Health and Safety at Work laid down the general principles of health and safety management in the UK. This legislation, along with the establishment of the Health and Safety Executive Committee (HSE) and the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) (now merged), has made UK employers pay more attention to occupational safety and health since the mid-1970s. As a result, the role of health and safety officials and health and safety managers has become more common in the UK workplace.
In order to meet the need to provide professional qualifications in the field of occupational safety and health, NEBOSH was established in September 1979 to conduct business in the IOSH office in Leicester.
At that time, the NEBOSH Board of Directors, led by the founding President Professor Richard Booth, set its main goal: “Improve the quality and quantity of occupational safety and health professional qualifications.
